This is the motto of these formerly conjoined twins, so I really wanted to try to find a way to incorporate into this captivating scene, which tells their incredible story. The kite represents when they were conjoined (with a photo of them). The strings of the kite represent how they now have separate lives with the tail of the kite reminding them of their motto.
I've never had such a difficult scene to shoot, as my scenes are only for babies and small children who are not mobile. However, I felt that Jadon (the one on the left) needed to be a part of this scene to tell the whole story. You cannot image how difficult this was and how long it took to shoot and edit this image, but I am so thrilled this family will have such a compelling photo of these amazing boys. (If you haven't see the video, we went live today before we photographed the boys!)
Here is what this brave mama had to say..."Anias and Jadon McDonald were miraculously born on 9/9/2015 at 11:11 pm as the rarest of the rare, craniopagus twins, or more plainly, twins conjoined at the head. The boys were conjoined for 14 months, sharing the entire top of their skulls, all of their superficial vasculature and 7 centimeters of brain tissue. They spent this time lying on their backs as they could not sit up. The boys underwent 3 brain surgeries and endured tissue expanders to prepare for their separation and subsequently lived in this hospital for most of their first year. The boys were successfully separated on October 14, 2016 after a 30 hour marathon surgery. Jadon quickly recovered and is on target to meet all of his milestones. Anias, however, lost a significant amount of his brain and vasculature (which was given to Jadon) and has had a much more difficult (although quite miraculous) recovery process. Although Anias was faced with a mountain to climb in terms of recovery, He takes each step toward his future with a smile on his face and with love in his heart. It is by the grace of God that we know that this child is meant to do great things."
